The Most American Cars Out There–is there something for everyone?
Cars aren’t getting cheaper, and tariffs are threatening to turn the automotive industry upside down.
So, what’s left for the average American buyer who wants a solid, affordable ride—and wants to support American manufacturing while they're at it?
We’re navigating through the confusion to bring some clarity. First of all, there’s some light shining at the end of the tunnel.
Tax deductions could happen and we covered how they could impact you in the Market News section. This is great news, if you eligible and hopefully you are.
Then, there’s the other crucial factor when buying any new car: how American is it?
There are several guides, but one that we like a lot is this one by Cars.com, which covers not only by badge, but build location and how much US labor is involved, along with other cool data.
What’s interesting is that the most American car is also one of the most controversial. Perhaps, not the vehicle itself, but the brand. It’s the Tesla Model 3, built in Fremont, California, followed by the Model Y, built in Austin, Texas.
It’s controversial because of the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, and his forays into politics. Here’s more on it.
Controversies or not, Tesla takes the first four spots in the American-Made Index. Nobody can take that away from the company.
By the way, what do you think of the link between man and company? Does it affect your perception of the model?
Jeep is the first name to show up that’s not Tesla, with the Gladiator. It’s an excellent option for those who want something that’s: a) not electric, b) not a city hauler. Plus, as this article showcases, it has made some leaps in quality.
These are the five cars that AOL recommends you buy. However, they aren’t the only ones on the list.
What happens if you want to take on a Ferrari but you don’t have the budget to buy a supercar? Well, you can go for the sixth car on the list: a Kia. That’s right. As this article highlights, the Kia EV6 is powerful enough to take on a Ferrari.
Cars.com truly did a great job by providing us with this list, mainly because it showcases some vehicles that you probably didn’t expect, such as Hondas and Volkswagens.
It just goes to show how automakers are focusing on building cars in America.
Plus, soon, we might have even more options, from one of the unlikeliest partnerships of recent times. A while back, we had discussed how these two companies were joining and whether we thought it would work (It didn’t).
Here’s the reason why.
Now, they’re back together again, in a fascinating move. Here’s more on it.
We can’t say that the options for buying a Made-in-America car are limited, but they start dwindling as we go down the list. It’s also surprising to see some brands such as GMC, Chevy and Ford so far down.
So, is there an American car for everyone? Not quite and not yet.
Out of the top twenty on the list, only six options cost less than $35,000. However, with companies working to create more options in America, we’re likely to see this list expand. At least, that’s what we all want.
